Treatment for Rett's Syndrome

>> Tuesday, February 10, 2009

I am not familiar with Rett's Syndrome just for starters, I do know that it also causes autism-like symptoms in girls as well as complications with their heart and breathing. However, I came across this article from US News that talks about a possible treatment. The article says that "Daily shots of the active fragment from a protein called insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) helped with movement and breathing irregularities." They are testing mice for now but say that this is the only "drug" that will help with breathing irregularities. Please read the article for more information on this new treatment. Also, there is information on Rett's Syndrome on their website at the very bottom of the page. All comments are welcome!
