Autism Awareness Day

>> Monday, April 2, 2012

Happy Autism Awareness Day!

I hope everyone is enjoying their day today. We are having wonderful warm weather, as we have had all winter long. We are all doing well, just very busy with college and school. The boys are in the third and fifth grades now. This will be little Eddie's last year at the school he has been going to since kindergarten. I know that he will miss it greatly. He will be going to a much bigger school next year, and I am hoping that he will adjust well. We have had excellent behavior out of Eddie this year in school. At home, he can get pretty silly. Devin on the other hand, we are having major trouble out of him at school. He is in constant trouble, and we are having a very hard time getting him the help that he needs. Applied Behavior would cost us about $44 a week, which is not doable right now. The autism clinic here in town is still working on getting Medicaid to pay for their services. The clinic has been open for several years now, yet so many children are deprived of the help because of costs. They do go into the schools and work with the children, but when I mention the boy's school they had no idea the school was even in town. So until Medicaid is accepted there, then we will have to wait on the help that he so rightfully deserves. I guess that I will close now, and finish up housework. I just wanted to drop in and tell everyone... Happy Autism Awareness Day! Give your autism friend a hug from all of us... Have a wonderful day!

Light It Up Blue 2010: Autism Awareness Day

>> Thursday, April 1, 2010

For this years autism awareness, Autism Speaks is Lighting It Up Blue for 2010. On the night of April 1, 2010 (that is tonight) the Empire State Building in New York City will be lit up blue. The CN tower in Toronto, Canada will also be lit up to raise autism awareness. Pictures can be viewed here as well. There is also some great ideas on what you can do for autism awareness this month. If you are looking to find an event to attend to in your area, then there is a place where you can find the ones in your area. If you have any photos that you wish to share with them, then you can also get that done. Need to share on facebook or twitter? No problem. You can do it all there. Light It Up Banners for blogs and websites are also available to use at no cost to you, and remember to wear blue for Autism Awareness Day!! Thank you for your support!

Fundraise for UKAF on UN World Autism Awareness Day April 2, 2009. To mark UN World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD) 2009 on 2nd April - the UK Autism Foundation is now partnering with JustGiving to launch a fundraising campaign for autism and Asperger's Syndrome. This is great news for the UK. I wish them the best and hope that you will support them as well. Remember autism is a world epidemic in my opinion, and help is needed all around the world for this ever growing condition. Enjoy your day!!

UK Autism Foundation To Request GOP To Act

Poverty and autism in the United Kingdom has led to the decision of the UK Autism Foundation to request that the GOP act on Autism Awareness Day, April 2, 2009. Something I can relate to. I wouldn't say we were rich either, and these days, poverty is becoming more common due to the economic state of the entire world. Such sad time that we have to go through something like that.

The UK Autism Foundation is also appealing to the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the UN General Assembly to take action on Poverty and Autism. The credit crunch and the deepening global economic recession has placed huge pressure on families and adults with autism and Asperger's Syndrome. There are many more families below the poverty line, as described at Medical News Today.

10 Things To Do With Your Autistic Child On Autism Awareness Day

>> Wednesday, March 25, 2009

April 2, 2009 is Autism Awareness Day!! So I thought that I would come up with a little to do list with your child on this special day. Hopefully you will find it interesting as much as I did putting it together.

10 Things To Do With Your Autistic Child on Autism Awareness Day

1.) Give your child a hug and kiss and tell them today is your day. You are special.
2.)Give thanks to your doctors and therapist by helping your child make a card.
3.) Go on an Autism Awareness Walk in your area. If there is not one create a walk with closest friends of the child.
4.) Read a children's book about their condition or any other type of book they enjoy. Age appropriate children want to learn more about their condition.
5.) Create an Autism Awareness Message on your vehicle, and add a link to your blog or another favorite website. I plan on doing this one.
6.) Donate to autism research. One of the most fulfilling things you can do.
7.) Bake an Autism Awareness Cake. Make sure that it is GFCF, and colors are of natural origin.
8.) Buy your child a favorite toy he does not have. It is sure to keep them busy for a few minutes while you at least sit down.
9.) Buy an Autism Awareness product for you and your child to wear on autism day, and during the month of April.
10.) Go fishing, shopping, or create your own idea. I am curious as to what you can come up with.
