NASA Hacker McKinnon Appeals To Bush For Pardon

>> Friday, January 16, 2009

McKinnon's legal team has asked foreign secretary David Miliband to press for a pardon on MCKinnon to avoid his extradition to the United States from the UK. President Bush has denied this pardon; however, Barack Obama will be in office on Tuesday January 20, 2009. McKinnon told the press conference that," A lot of us have looked at Obama as a new hope." Only time will tell what Obama will do about McKinnon. Mc Kinnon has caused $700,000 in damages to computers by deleting files that were contained on them. Mc Kinnon pleaded guilty to UK computer offenses in hope to halt his extradition to the United States and will be heard from the High Court on January 20, 2009 by Keir Starmer. Starmer is expected to reach a decision on within four weeks to determine if McKinnon will stay in the UK for a jail term. He pleaded guilty to Section 2 of the Computer Misuse Act (CMA) which deals with unauthorized access with intent to commit or facilitate commission of further offences. In addition, on Tuesday 20 January the High Court will hear oral evidence from McKinnon's legal team. McKinnon's defence contend that McKinnon's diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome in the summer was not taken into account by the home secretary Jacqui Smith when she rejected McKinnon's second appealagainst extradition in October. You can read up on this story here, and more updates are sure to follow. See you then.

Autism Expert Backs Hacker

>> Thursday, January 15, 2009

I ran into this story and thought wow. Gary McKinnon,42, could face up to 70 years in prison if he is found guilty of gaining access to and damaging 97 American Navy, Army, NASA, and Pentagon computers for information regarding UFO's in 2001 and 2002. The expert Simon Baron-Cohen says that the behavior McKinnon was showing was a result of an interest in UFO's and the truth. He, McKinnon, was acting out of his disability of Asperger's Syndrome, a form of autism, and didn't realize it as a crime to access information on UFO's. Simon Baron-Cohen has backed McKinnon as to try and avoid having him extradited to the United States. You can read the article here.

In my opinion, this is a sad story of a man who only wanted the truth, but couldn't comprehend what he was actually doing because of an illness that affects him. He was diagnosed with Asperger's two years ago. I hope all goes well, but a crime is a crime. This one is a big one and I'm looking forward to hearing more on this case. I'll keep up with it the best to my ability and keep you informed. Who know what will happen when the time comes.

Autism Rates

California autism rates are going up. It is estimated that autism rates among children five years or younger rose from 0.8 percent out of 10,000 children born in California in 1990 to 11.2 percent per 10,000 children born in 2006. A cumulative incident per 10,000 births climbed from 6.2 percent in 1990 to 42.5 percent in 2001. Researchers are wanting to look more into environmental aspects to hopefully explain why autism is on the rise. You can read this article from ABC.com on the subject. Environmental aspects cannot be excluded in the search for autism causes; however, I believe our autism gifts are genetic. I do not limit myself on causes, but I do know what my heart feels when I do observations of my surroundings and views on autism. Much research is needed still, and I hope that someday the world will know for sure. Changes are slim, but I have confidence in researchers.

Easter Seals has a state by state profile on the number of autistic cases in America. You can view them here. I came across it several months ago, and I thought that I would share this information with you. The count was done in 2006-2007. You will be amazed and can now compare cases with other states and even learn about your own. Hope you will visit. Have a good day!!

GFCF Chicken For Dinner

>> Tuesday, January 13, 2009

I had bought a bag of chicken breast to coat in the rice flour that I made myself. So here is how I did it. I cut the pieces into strips, and coated with rice flour that I had put some MSG free chicken seasoning into the flour. I fried them in corn oil, and they turned out delicious. I had some for lunch today while the kids were in school, and I made some more when they got home after doing more business in town. Dev absolutely loved them. He had helped me with making the flour. He ate about a good seven or eight pieces of it, always saving more for later. He really liked my rice flour and couldn't wait to have it in food, milk and whatever else I could make with it. Just like the muffins I made with rice milk. He eventually ate the whole pan. Good for you Dev.
My Ed on the other hand didn't care to much about having rice products in his food. He is so much like his dad, and I guess he didn't want a change in his food. Maybe one day he will...I hope. It would be so much better on him.
Ed had to take a red juice to school for snack, but Dev on the other hand said he didn't want the juice. I told him that he could take water to school for his snack. He did and that made me very proud of him for choosing not to have colors. I just asked him if he drank milk at school for lunch, and he said, " No I drank the juice." I am pretty sure that milk is hurting his belly and has decided to refrain from it.

Update On Boys

>> Monday, January 12, 2009

Hello everyone, just thought I'd give you an update on the boys. I had to take Dev to the dentist today. His permanent tooth is coming up from behind his baby tooth, and I wanted to have it looked at. The doctor told me to wait about another month, and if it hasn't come out to come back. I really hope it does. He did sit in the dentist chair without moving a muscle. He loves going to the dentist and having his teeth cleaned. He doesn't complain to much with that one. He does have his six year old molars coming in, and he has said they are sore. I kept him home today from school, and he is being so good for me. I have taken out all the colors (FD&C) out of their diets, and I have to admit that I am seeing wonders with them. There are still some every now and then behavior problems, but they are getting better. I'm very glad at that. They were playing checkers together last night without getting all upset over one another. Hooray!! Also, they were actually sharing toys which they hardly do anyways. Dev got a new fire truck from grandma and was even letting Ed play with it. WOW!! This is a major accomplishment for them both. Good job boys!! I was planning on taking them to a DAN doctor, but the ONLY one in MISSISSIPPI doesn't take medicaid. AARGG! So I don't know where I'll go from their or if I should just put them on a GFCF diet anyways to see what kind of results I can get. Ed is kind of weary of the whole thing, but once I find what he really likes, and I'm able to get the ingredients to make it then maybe he will come along. Last night he was fussing over the colors. He was saying, "Everything has colors in it!" He just didn't want to eat or drink anything. He has his little mood change. I think that he was too sleepy and sensitive to his environment, as well as the fact that he was being hurried off to bed so that he could go to school this morning. When he woke up, he was rearing to get going. I didn't even have trouble of getting him out of be which is usually very hard. Well hope you have a great day

Google Chrome Is Here

>> Sunday, January 11, 2009

Finally, a browser that I enjoy using. Google Chrome is the latest from Google and it is working very well for me. I enjoy the features that it brings, and I am using it now. It takes you to a web page faster than Internet Explorer, Mozilla, or Netscape. I have several on my computer, but this is the one I use especially for myself. The address bar and the search bar are all in one without having a search box.

The bookmark system is awesome as well. All my favorite websites are shown under the address bar where I can click on them to access them very fast instead of minimizing and going to my shortcuts on my desktop. You are able to import bookmarks that you already have.

When I start up Google Chrome, my most visited pages are there with a picture of the website. I like that the most. Also, my bookmarks can be placed in folders that are easy to construct. Controlling tabs are great too. Each one is at the very top of the page if I select it to be on a tool bar, and using a new tab has never been so easy. I highly recommend using Google Chrome for everyday use at home, and updates will be available once Google gets things running. It is also designed to have fewer crashes, and I strongly believe this. I still haven't had one with Chrome yet. I was always tired of my sessions ending with other browsers and now I don't have to worry about it as much.

I was so excited to learn Google was coming out with this browser, and it has fulfilled my browsing needs many times over. Hope you will realize how enjoyable it is; once you download it and use it. I'm looking forward to more updates for Google Chrome as time goes by.

I downloaded Google Chrome because it would make my life easier, and I could keep up with all my bookmarks a lot more efficient with Google Chrome.

Ed Is Reading A Book

Here is a story of a seven year old boy who had no words to say until he was 3 1/2 years old. I like to write stories about what they do to give the world a reference on autism and ADHD experiences and accomplishments.

Here he is reading a comic strip book that I found to read at the library, and he found a great interest in it. We love going to the library to find books. The book is called, "Peanuts Collection" by Charles M. Schultz. Inside this book is actually three books in one. They are, "It's A Dog's Life; Snoopy," "It's a Big World, Charlie Brown," and "Peanuts 2000". As he was reading, my husband and I would listen while doing our own things. he would come across some parts that would actually have some meaning to him; especially, learning something new or teaching him a lesson. For example, a conversation between Lucy and her brother Linus goes as follows.
"Listen to me...Mom doesn't want you to have a dog, does she?" Linus answers, "No". Lucy then says, "Do you really think Santa Claus is going to bring you something mom doesn't want you to have?" The meaning can have a learning experience on the limits of Santa Claus, or it could have a meaning to you. It was really great that he is wanting to read this book cover to cover. All 487 pages of it. He's read the first book of it in 2 weeks. The first book is 160 pages. This is considering he rarely reads on it. He can read fast and has a 100 average in second grade reading. A regular classroom instead of Special Ed. I have never seen such smart kids. Ed can even multiply some numbers now. And he's half way finished with this year. In preschool, he wanted the teacher, Mrs. Robbins (Thank-you), to write the word of the shape so he could learn how to write and most of all read the word. He felt the need to rush into reading at age 4. Amazing to me that he did. I never let my guard down on what they can do, and I'm always expecting to see or hear something different out of this world from them.

Rice Milk...Made Easy

Currently I am reading two books from the library. In one book called, "The Kid-Friendly ADHD & Autism Cookbook. By Pamela J Compart, M.D., and Dana Laake R.D.H., M.S.,LDN. There is a recipe for rice milk. I enjoyed it after I made some for Dev. Milk makes his stomach hurt, so I thought that I would try this to see if he could tolerate it. He drinks it, but not like he would regular milk. It is different for us, but maybe he will eat it with cereal. I thought that I would share this recipe with you.

Rice Milk
4 cups hot/warm water
1 cup cooked rice (white or brown)
1 teaspoon vanilla. (Use pure vanilla extract and not imitation vanilla for the Feingold diet)

Place all ingredients in a blender until smooth. Let the milk set for about 30 minutes. Pour the milk steadily into another container, leaving most of the sediment in the first container. Store in fridge for up to 5 days.

Hope you will enjoy this recipe.
